Will I need to remove the old plumbers putty and put in new?

I am going to install a new bath drain. I need to know if I should pick up some plumbers putty when I go to purchase my drain remover and new casing.

  1. Yes definitly the old putty will be kind of dry and won't seal as well as new putty
  2. Teflon tape is always a good item to have around for the threads also. (it is inexpensive) and will save you headaches in the long run. Good luck!
  3. Yep, get some plumbers putty.
  4. Clean area and use plumbers putty. If in south (dry ) area I suggest to use silicone sealent 100%. Plumbers putty when used in the south has a tendency to dry out and leak. Seen this a hundred times. Even used silicone in the north.
